The Kimiya technologies enable the conversion of sewage and human waste, organic green waste, municipal waste and plastics into sustainable fuels and chemicals such as diesel, gasoline, SAF aviation fuels, chemical lubricants and in near future ammonia , hydrogen, urea, and fertilizers.

The team behind Kimiya is based at the University of Newcastle. The project commenced in 2010. Worldwide proprietary patents over the technology have been secured. The Australian government has funded more than $6.5 million in R&D grants for the project and other organisations have also funded several millions. The Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has recently visited the project. A fully functioning proto plant is operational at the University.
